Department of History at Georgia State University invites applications
for an anticipated assistant or associate professor in the history of
the Ancient World to begin August 2009, pending budgetary approval.
Geographic / Thematic focus open, but Mediterranean / Near Eastern
World expertise preferred. Ph.D. required by date of hire. Primary
research interest should emphasize cross-cultural connections and must
focus on the period before the end of Late Antiquity. Instructional
responsibilities include a world survey course, a course on the Ancient
Mediterranean, and undergraduate and graduate courses in area of
specialization. The successful candidate will participate in the
department’s Program in World History and Cultures, and in GSU's
cross-disciplinary programs. GSU offers an attractive teaching load,
provides support for professional development, is located in downtown
Atlanta, and boasts one of the most diverse student bodies among public

The History Department at the University of South Carolina seeks to
fill a tenure-track assistant professorship in the Ancient/Late Antique
History of the Mediterranean basin to begin August 16, 2009. The
research specialty is open, but the Department has particular interest
in ethnicity, civil/human rights, economic development, religion,
gender, and the environment. The successful applicant will teach a 2/2
load, including a survey of Western Civilization. Applicants should have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment, a strong research agenda, and classroom experience. Washington University in St. Louis seeks an assistant professor of Ancient Mediterranean Religions/Early Christianity.
This position, which will begin in August 2009, will be held jointly
between the Department of Classics and the Program in Religious
Studies. While the precise area of research specialization is open, we
would be most interested in a promising and productive scholar who is
engaged in interdisciplinary study of Christian literature (canonical
and extra-canonical), history, exegesis, or theology in the context of
the religions of the ancient Mediterranean world. Teaching duties will
include courses in Greek and Latin at all levels, as well as courses in
early Christianity and in Greco-Roman religions. The ability to teach
an introductory course in the New Testament would be particularly
welcome. The teaching load is two courses each semester. Applicants
should have a Ph.D. either in Classics or Religious Studies (in hand by
time of appointment), a well-developed research agenda for the future,
